| When Yamaha released the YZF250, they hit a home run. Not only a home run but also they knock it out of the park and caught all the other manufactures with their pants down. With all the successes that Yamaha has had with the 400,426 and the new 450 the small bore Yamaha THUMPER just had to be a winner. Now all the manufactures have small bore thumpers but Yamaha was the first and some will say the best. Yes we had the DR’s and the XR’s and even the KLX but they where all more play bikes than race bikes. The YZF was the first high tech low weight water-cooled tech-no wizard that we all wanted. Not only did Yamaha raise the bar when they introduced the YZF250 they keep raising it. Over the years they have improved the handling the suspension the frame the ergonomics, you can even get one in white and yellow, the one thing they have not changed was the bullet proof motor. The 5-valve head design that Yamaha uses is one of the best designs out there. When the YZF250 came out we starting testing, we found that we could increase the bore to 80mm giving us a motor that has 280cc of displacement. The 280 gave more bottom and mid power yet would rev like the stock motor. This worked great for GNCC and Moto-cross. We then developed the 290, this motor gave us huge bottom and mid power. The larger bore also allowed the motor to rev a bit slower making this motor a good tight woods great for Enduro type trails. National Champion and all around off road hero Randy Hawkins raced this motor in GNCCs and National Enduros. With two kits we can give you the right power you need, from Enduro hero to Moto hero to King of the trail we have you covered.
